Hi, my dad has a TomTom sat nav system and is at present trying tp update it. Could somebody please email me instructions on how to do this to les_n_majic@live.co.uk ... it wud be much appreciated....thanx
I assume you have the tom tom programme installed on your computer?
Plug the sat nav in using the usb cable, the computer will then recognise the TOM TOM and will give you the option to upgrade

I understand that there are 2 main players in the sat nav mapping market, Navteq and Tele atlas. Are they also responsible for determining which is the fastest route, shortest route etc. I have tried a number of sat navs and some routes are much more preferable to others. If I found out the drivers I could look for this when buying a new sat nav. Cheers
no,misconception,its the longest route,and the shortest route,the latter also states that the shortest route is not always the fastest one???
I would like voice directions, and not to have to add maps etc to it. I also want it to be reasonably priced. Any Thoughts?

I am guessing from your reply that you wouldn't mind your wife, girlfriend sister mother being in a strange aera, and lost picking up the first stranger they see, getting them to dictate which way they go and then assuming that nothing untoward happens at this point them getting out their purse and flashing the cash in order to pay for lunch. Theres lost and theres stupid.

I have a choice between matallic tints or dye tints and want to know if my preferred metallic tint is OK. I've been told by Lexus dealer that metallic tints will probably cause major disruption to the performance of the sat nav.
The dealer is correct. Metal films will interfere with AM, Radio, Satellite transmissions as well as cellular phones. Don't go dyed films, since they will quickly turn purple.

My mother got a TomTom for business trips when she did not bring her car. Huge mistake. She regrets not getting a Garmin. I have a 9-5 with navigation (same as the 9-3) and it is phenomenal. There is really no comparing the two because mine is excellent and her TomTom is crap.
Everything from POIs (points of interest) to recalculation times to accuracy to ease of use are inferior on the TomTom.
The navigation on the Saab gives precise details of what to expect ahead of you (like exits or turns) right on the screen and it recalculates faster than ANY portable could.
I am a courier and starting a new run and since its christmas time i need to learn it fast, i was wondering if there is a sat nav where you could put in all the post codes and the device would pick the best route between them all thanks
Like Fardy, I have a tom tom One XL and it can work out a route if I provide it with a list of post codes. It is very efficient and will work out various routes: shortest, fastest, avoiding motorways, cycling route, walking route. I would recommend this model. I got mine from Halfords.
